Parents' Voice Meeting Schedule

9th November 7pm | Tuesday 10th January | Tuesday 24th April

When your child goes to secondary school you can miss the contact with other parents that happens so regularly at primary school. The other thing that seems to go is a chance to get involved in the school. Lots of parents help with reading, or do fundraising, but this often stops with the transition to secondary school.

Our parent’s voice meeting this week was focused on how parents could do more to support the students at Cantell. Mark Bagust from the senior leadership team and Elizabeth Hale, one of the governors, talked to the meeting about lots of ideas where parents could really make a difference. They included:

  • Fundraising including find sponsorship
  • Coming into the classroom where parents have skills to help students learn
  • Parents being mentors to students
  • Helping the move to employment by finding work experience placements, careers events, and perhaps mock interviews
  • Getting students more involved in the community by volunteering
  • Working with publicity and our new website

And it’s not just a talking shop. At the end of the meeting we voted on our favourite ideas, and the school will now be focusing on these to make sure parents can get more involved. The two top ideas were for parents to find more volunteering opportunities for students, and working with Cantell to support work experience and careers advice.

Interested in getting involved? Here is a pamphlet with more information on the Parents Voice and how you can contribute.
