The Cantell Cs

Challenge

We offer a full programme of extra curricular activities and clubs to suit all students regardless of ability. Our clubs range from sports to science and sometimes involve participation in national competitions and challenges.

Cantell's excellent learning facilities enable students to push themselves in their subject areas and beyond. Our Specialist School status is reflected in the modern, well-equipped IT learning facilities and dedicated computer/media suites we offer. Cantell boasts spacious art, dance and drama studios, fully equipped technology workshops and a hair and beauty salon.

From rock music to classical, students are given the chance to learn a wide range of musical instruments and showcase their creative skills in a variety of shows organised throughout the year.

We enjoy on-site access to a large sports hall, gym, state-of-the-art fitness suite, hard court area and synthetic pitches as well as regular access to the nearby Southampton Sports Centre. Our extensive sports facilities give all students valuable opportunity not just for recreation, but to discover and develop new talents and interests. Many of our students compete successfully at regional and national level.

Creativity

Our dedicated and experienced staff team bring learning to life by making the classroom an exciting place to be. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the year for students to enhance their learning elsewhere through our wide range of trips and visits to broaden their horizons, or test their talents through numerous internal and external competitions and challenges.

Commitment

All students are encouraged to make a positive contribution to the school and wider community. We understand how important it is to recognise the efforts, progress and achievements our students make in their subjects and on a wider level. Every opportunity is taken to reward and celebrate these accomplishments.

Reward trips are highly effective incentives in engaging our students in school life and gaining their commitment to their performance and conduct. These are great events which recognise behaviour, effort, attendance, commitment and homework.

Exemplary students from Year 11 are awarded the additional honour of becoming Prefects and two will be selected as Head Boy and Head Girl, representing the school on formal occasions.

The high point of the year is our Academic Awards Evening which showcases the tremendous talents of our students and shares our immense pride in their achievements with their families.

Co-operation

Our student's progress is central to everything we do. Cantell aims to develop student's understanding, knowledge and communication skills and promote their emotional, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We encourage students to take initiative and take responsibility for their own learning.

Cantell offers a caring and supportive community where students enjoy positive relationships with their teachers and mentors. We lay the foundations of future success by pulling together to foster our student's self-esteem, confidence, talents and abilities. Student progress is monitored very carefully with mentors providing one-to-one pastoral support throughout their time at Cantell.

Student's success at school is only possible with the full support of parents. We aim to work in very close partnership with parents and appreciate the active involvement and encouragement we receive from them.

Courtesy

Cantell equips its students with far more than just skills and relevant qualifications. We also continually strive to help our students to make a positive contribution both in school and outside and give each individual the best possible chance to develop into mature, rounded young adults.

Every member of our school community is expected to be respectful and to show respect and consideration for each other, ourselves, our learning and our environment. We aim to create a safe, responsible and healthy school environment in which students can thrive and take pride.
