It goes without saying that, as a Maths and Computing College, we have invested in leading edge technology, from hand held devices to state of the art computer suites.
Our investment has not stopped there, in fact IT adds little value if used as a bolt on to traditional teaching. Our approach is to truly embed technology in our teaching and learning; to equip pupils with transferable IT skills that they use and apply across the curriculum.
Our mathematical focus is to help pupils develop confidence in problem solving and data processing, not just in maths lessons but in any subject or project undertaken. Pupils gain confidence to become logical, structured thinkers who can manage data by comparing and validating sources, applying statistical measures and reviewing results.
Combining mathematical competence and computer literacy enables our pupils to maximise learning, but school is about preparing pupils for life. We strongly believe in preparing pupils with life-long skills; achieved by using industry standard IT packages and challenging pupils to work on projects based on real life scenarios.
Maths and Computing in Action:
"On a recent field trip we connected microphones to i pods and recorded notes about what we had seen and done. When we got back to school our teacher loaded them on the VLE [Virtual Learning Environment]. 'It was really useful; everyone could access the Podcasts from school or home. I used them to help me write my coursework and revise for exams'
