Teacher of English

Part Time 0.6, Possibility for 0.8, Permanent

Start date: Spring 2 (or earlier if available)

Cantell School is proud to be a heavily oversubscribed, inclusive comprehensive school with a student intake that reflects a wonderfully diverse and vibrant local community. Our fundamental mission is to provide an exceptional learning experience for every student so that they may lead a happy and successful life now and in the future.

In March 2024, we were judged outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. Whilst we are honoured to receive such an accolade, we must be clear that this does not define us. What makes us stand out in the crowd is the strength of relationships between our diverse student and staff body. It is one of the reasons why Cantell is a great place for students to learn and staff to work!

We have an exciting opportunity to extend our dynamic and innovative English team, and are seeking to appoint a Teacher of English with outstanding potential. As a team we strive to give students the confidence to communicate effectively through the nurtured and sustained love of reading; to think critically and to develop into resilient and reflective learners.

Our Team

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and imaginative classroom practitioner to join a fantastic team, led by two joint Heads of Faculty.

We have developed a KS3 curriculum that revolves around the reading of whole texts which cover a diverse range of writers, characters and topics.

Our English team are reflective, forward thinking and collaborative. We aim to deliver engaging and relevant content and explore all opportunities so that our students are EMPOWERED* for their life beyond Cantell, with the knowledge and skills to pursue any interests post-16.

As a consistently outstanding teacher with a real passion for your subject, you will possess the vision and drive for continuing school improvement and raising attainment.  The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop your career within an attractive and well-resourced working environment, supported by a talented and dedicated team of staff and would be suitable for an exceptional ECT or experienced teacher.

*EMPOWERED – Cantell actively promotes eight key EMPOWER skills which students will need to thrive in the workplace (Leadership, Organisation, Resilience, Initiative, Communication, Independence, Innovation + Entrepreneurship).

If you are an inspiring teacher, who forms effective relationships with young people and colleagues, is energetic, well organised and has the drive to make sure our pupils get the best learning opportunities we can offer them, we would love you to join our exceptional team.

We will offer the successful applicant:

•             A committed and extremely supportive staff team

•             An extensive and personalised CPD programme

•             The opportunity to make a real difference to our students

•             A thriving community of students and parents/carers

We wish to appoint candidates with:

•             Ability to promote high quality teaching and learning

•             Excellent interpersonal, communication and motivational skills

•             A passion for improving students’ lives and opportunities

•             High levels of ambition and drive for outstanding performance from staff and students

The school is committed to safeguarding children and all applicants are subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Although applications will be processed as they arrive, an earlier closing date may be made before this if a successful candidate is found.
