“Exercise not only changes your body it changes your mind your attitude and your mood.” Physical Education plays such a vital part in the development of our students across the 3 areas of health which are Physical Health, Mental Health and Social Health.
At Key Stage 3 students follow a directed timetable which allows them to experience a range of individual and team based sporting activities. Some of these activities include; gymnastics, badminton, basketball, rugby, health and fitness, athletics, handball, striking and Fielding. In addition in year 8 all students look at swimming and water safety. This allows students to develop the techniques needed to take part in each activity, awareness of tactics and how to work together and develop leadership skills.
During key stage 4 students move to an option based curriculum where they can focus on the sporting activities they enjoy, to ensure they continue their healthy active lifestyles post Cantell. These will include a mixture of individual and team based activities. There is also the option to choose BTEC Sport as an examination subject to further develop their knowledge and passion of sport and PE.
As part of our extensive extra-curricular provision, students can take part in a wide range of sporting activities after school which changes termly. This includes competitive team and individual activities as well as participation based and social activities to foster a love of physical activity. The PE department are always looking for any trips and visits to sporting events and fixtures to widen student experiences.
