Cantell School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all our children in school.  We believe that our students have a right to learn in a caring, supportive and safe environment; our staff are vigilant for signs of any student in distress and are confident about applying the processes to alleviate any problems or concerns.

We fully recognise our responsibilities for child protection.  We have a Child Protection Policy that applies to all staff, governors, volunteers and visitors to our school.  There are 5 main elements to this policy:

  1. Ensure we practice safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with our students.
  2. Raise awareness of child protection and safeguarding and equip our students with the skills needed to keep them safe
  3. Develop and implement procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse/neglect.
  4. Support our students in accordance with the agreed child protection/safeguarding plan.
  5. Establish a safe environment in which our students can learn and develop.

Safeguarding is about ensuring that everyone is safe from harm, safe from bullying, safe from people who could abuse, safe from discrimination or harassment and that we all feel safe in our environment.

If your child is ever concerned about their own safety or well-being or about a friend, they should talk to someone; a parent, teacher, tutor, Head of Year or the Safeguarding Officer.

At Cantell we follow procedures as per the Southampton Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).  Further information on these procedures can be found here:
